assessed using a combination of participation tracking, observational assessment,
and participant feedback throughout the grant period. Library staff will track attendance at monthly book club sessions
and monitor continued engagement over time to measure retention and consistency of participation.
Participants will complete brief, informal pre- and post-program surveys designed to measure self-reported changes in
reading confidence, interest in reading together as a family, and use of library resources. These surveys will be
administered at the beginning of participation and again at the conclusion of the program year.
Educational gains will be further assessed through facilitated discussions and staff observations of participant
engagement, comprehension, and discussion skills during sessions. Library staff will also track participant use of
recommended learning tools such as Universal Class and LearningExpress, noting enrollment in courses related to
literacy, ESOL, test preparation, and career development.
While formal standardized assessments such as TABE or CASAS will not be administered, these ongoing qualitative and
quantitative measures will provide meaningful data to evaluate progress, outcomes, and overall program impact.
Measurable Results- Defining Success
By the end of the 12-month funding period, the library expects measurable outcomes for participating families based on
participation data and pre- and post-program assessments.
Below are the results we expect:
50% of enrolled families will attend three or more book club sessions during the grant period.
Pre- and post-program surveys will show that at least 50% of participating families demonstrate an increase in correct
responses on reading comprehension and discussion-based questions related to program texts.
At least 50% of participants will demonstrate improved ability to identify main ideas, ask text-based questions, and
explain key concepts during facilitated discussions, as measured by structured staff observation checklists.
Media literacy outcomes will be measured through surveys administered before and after participation. At least 50% of
participants will correctly identify credible information sources and distinguish fact from opinion at higher rates than in
pre- program assessments.
90% of participating families will enroll in at least one related Universal Class or LearningExpress course during the
grant period.
