3. 1.2 Influent Qualitv
I The influent CBOD5 and TSS data reviewed for the City' s WWTP indicated that since January
1998 the influent daily CBOD5 concentration ranged from 52. 0 mg/l to 277.0 mg/l, and averaged
mg/l. The daily influent TSS concentration ranged from 59. 0 mg/l to 592. 0
I approximately 172. 6
mg!l and averaged approximately 202. 8 mg/l. The influent CBOD5 and TSS design values for
this WWTP are 220 mg/l and 200 mg/l respectively. Note the average TSS of 202. 8 mg/l is
I slightly higher than the design value of 200 mg!l. The influent CBOD5 and TSS data for the
period beginning in January 1998 through June 2002 are summarized in Table A-2.
I
3. 1.3 Effluent Quality
I
As previously mentioned in Section 2 of this report, the effluent from the City of Fort Walton
Beach WWTP is pumped to a 29.0 MG lined holding pond onsite. Based on the data review for
I the period beginning in January 1998 and ending in June 2002, the City' s WWTP produces an
effluent quality that consistently meets the permit requirements for effluent disposal. Table A-3
I summarizes the effluent data from the City' s WWTP disposed at the two ( 2) sprayfield sites for
the period between January 1998 and June 2002.
I
There were times when the effluent TSS directed to the sprayfield at the golf course ( R002)
I exceeded the daily maximum requirement of 5 mg/l. For the period beginning on October 30,
1998 and ending on June 30, 2002, the permit condition for this parameter was exceeded six ( 6)
times as indicated on Table A- 3.
I'!... 'As can be seen from this data, the effluent pumped from the City' s WWTP to the restricted
II access sprayfield site R001 met the effluent criteria on a consistent basis, however there were
times the levels exceeded the permitted requirements. Figures B- 1, B- 2, B- 3, B- 4, and B- 5
II.'
II graphically illustrate the trends in effluent quality for BOD5 (ROOl and R002), TSS at R001, TSS
at R002, pH at R001, and pH at R002, respectively.

III 3. 1.4 Residuals Quality
The sludge wasted from the wastewater treatment process is treated using a series of processes,
i'jr,i
which include anaerobic digestion and dewatering. The residuals produced from these processes
sludge under the provisions of the sludge rule Chapter 62- 640,
I are considered a Class B
Domestic Wastewater Residuals, FAC, and the Federal Sludge Rule Title 40, Code of Federal
Regulations ( CFR), Part 503. Since the City currently disposes its residuals at the current
I agricultural use site ( Earl King Farms in Freeport, Florida) quarterly sludge analyses are
prepared. All have been within standards as outlined in the current state and federal regulations.
