The agreement provides a $ 100, 000 increase from the county each of the five years. During the current fiscal year, the county will provide $ 1, 204, 000 plus about $375, 000 in services in such areas as technology. During FY 2008, which is the final year of the agreement, the county will provide 1. 304, 000. During the past five years, the amount of funds received by Fort Walton Beach has increased. The city will receive 208, 433 during FY 2007 compared to $ 116, 352 it received in county funds during FY 2003. The challenge with funding is on the state level. A flaw in the state formula for library funding has allowed certain counties to obtain increased state aid funds at the expense of other counties. For example, Hernando County' s state funding increased from $ 133, 858 to $ 1, 801, 318 between FY 2005 and FY 2006. This will continue this year. Since there is only a limited amount of state funds and Hernando County' s equalization grant is taken off the top of the state appropriation, the result has been reduced state funds for many other counties. Okaloosa County' s state funds have decreased from $ 209, 462 during FY 2005 to about $ 163, 000 this year. The State Library has been slow in correcting the flaw in the formula, we met with Ray Sansom, Don Brown, and a representative from Durell Peaden' s office on November 27 to request assistance in correcting the situation. 12/ 6/ 2006 ri:1!;; 1;; 1 VI 1 Helen Spencer From: Mike Anderson Sent: Tuesday, December 05, 2006 8: 21 PM To: wayne Cc: Joyce Shanahan; Helen Spencer Subject: RE: Library Co-op Funding Dr Pullen, OK. How you want to present the info is up to you- as an agenda item or during your closing remarks. However, if there is a lot of info, it may be better to include it as an agenda item. That way you don' t have to have handouts, they' ll already be in the " book."
