Letter from Congressman Bob Sikes re FHA Administrative office for north-
west Florida was read:
Thank you very much for sending me the li.esolution endorsing the establish-
ment of a Federal Housing Administration office in the Northwest Florida-
South Alabama area.
We had, opinion, a successful meeting and received assurances that
in my
the FHA processing office in Pensacola will be expanded and improved at
the beginning of the next fiscal year, which is July 1.
I recognize the fact that the great distance involved in processing appli-
cations for housing through the Jacksonville office has resulted in serious
delays and even in financial hardship to builders and home owners alike. It
is my hope that we will be able to enjoy a servicing office in Pensacola
which will process applications up to the actual point of issuing com-
mitments."
Councilman Carnathan recently met with Mr. Sikes in the interest of
establishing this FHA office preferably in Pensacola. He reported that
Mr. Sikes is interested in this office which would prove of great bene-
I fit to construction in Fort Walton Beach.

cleaning the drainage ditch on Brooks Street. In addition, I
feel that the permanent team set up to perpetuate this improvement
in all parts of the city is beneficial to all and is deserving of
favorable comment.
I might note for your information that the low areas surrounding
the drainage ditch oh Brooks Street appear to be drying up. I
would also like to point out that the debris taken out of the ditch
has not been removed to my knowledge and as a result, much of it has
fallen or been thrown back into the ditch, which will eventually
II
restrict the flow of the water.
Manager advised that the clean up requested by Mr. Reither has been
taken care of.
BE drainage ditches adjoining Jim' s Barbecue ( property of f~. Barrett)
and PlaygTound Bowling Lanes ( property of Mr. Stallworth), City Manager
presented estimated costs for piping these ditches. Referred to Public
Works Cow~ ittee for study and recommendation at next meeting.
uotations of per diem rates from two local auditing firms were pre-
sented. Both Creel & Dennison and Robinson & Shiell quoted $ 75. 00
per day as senior accountant rate and ~ 50. 00 per day for junior ac-
countant.
Councilman Carnathan moved that Creel & Dennison be employed to prepare
t~is fiscal year audit in view of the fact that they have satisfactorily
prepared several audits for the City and are familiar with municipal pro-
cedures and the rates quoted are identical. Seconded by Councilman Jones.
Vote aye, unanimous.
Councilman Jones retired at 8: 25 F.h.

Apparent inequities in water and sewer rates for trailer parks, re-
sulting in hardship for trailer park operators were pointed out by
Finance Director. Referred to Finance Committee for study and recom-
mendation.
Mr. Arnold Miller, representing Cherokee Homes, asked Council' s author-
ization for waiving of parkland requirement on re- subdivision of Lot 5,
Block 4, Ba,you Subdivision. Council authorized the waiving of the park
area provision for this one- lot re- subdivision.
Councilman Carnathan proposed that the City consider the acquisition of
sand pit located in the vicinity of Moriarity and Beal Streets with the
intent of constructing a park. The excavated area could be developed
into a lake, the surrounding area grassed and planted, and thus, very
inexpensively, an attractive park would be available for the residents
of this district.
Councilman Miller moved that Mr. Carnathan' s recon~ endation be referred
to Finance Committee fo~ study and recommendation. Seconded by Councilman
Heady. Vote aye, unanimous.
