BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: September 16, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Dino J. Villani
SUBJECT: Dispatch Services Agreement
DEPARTMENT: Public Safety
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: To request approval of the Dispatch Services Agreement renewal
between Okaloosa County and the Fire Departments.
BACKGROUND: The Okaloosa County Department of Public Safety’s 911 County Warning
Point Dispatch is responsible for the emergency call receipt and dispatch for 17 Fire Departments
and County EMS under a Dispatch Services Agreement. Prior to this agreement, the Fire
Departments provided 40% of the funding for the fire dispatching services. In 2009, as the
County transitioned to the State Law Enforcement Radio System (SLERS), the Board agreed to
assume all costs associated with the dispatching services and the trade off was the Fire
Departments would pay the $9.00 per radio monthly charge to the State.
The County Warning Point Dispatch continues to provide 911 call taking and dispatching for the
Fire Departments. The Fire Departments continue to pay the $9.00 per radio monthly charge to
the State. The Dispatch Services Agreement has been signed by all Fire Department
representatives as their desire to continue to have the professional emergency dispatching
services maintained by the County.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the Dispatch Services Agreement renewal between
Okaloosa County and the 17 Fire Departments.
