Mayor asked if there was anyone to speak on the item.
Mr. LeBrun Smith stated he was there to speak against the
item. He stated that he had not read the entire ordinance
but wanted to address the Brooks Street portion of the
ordinance. He stated that he was opposed to the people on
the South side of the street having to give up valuable
waterfront property while on the North side they park cars,
have dumpsters and pile trash. He stated that he had
counted 27 trees that would have to be cut down and some
were large size trees and to do that to make more room for
people to park on the North side that he objected to that.
He stated he felt an elected official should be on the RDA
Board as they really had no voice on the issues after it
went to RDA.
Mr. Don David, Vice- Chairman, RDA, stated that he would
like to give a general introduction to the ordinance. He
stated the Board had worked sometime on the ordinance before
submitting to Council and stated the general intent of the
ordinance was to provide a vehicle for the implementation
of redevelopment of downtown. He stated that as far as the
overall ordinance went it provided the funds for more
orderly development downtown. He stated that they felt it
was fair and would help increase the value for the property
owners and that it did not slant anyone thing for or
against for any individual and hoped that out of the hearing
the comments that came out of the hearing would provide
improvements to provide a good working tool to implement
the redevelopment of the downtown area.

Fort Walton should do as other towns did, park people above
the stores, it would be cheaper than buying property on
Brooks street.

best to maintain their property and they loved it as it was.
She stated that as she saw it a widening of that street l
would provide space for trucks to unload and create a
more I
bottleneck. She stated that until some provision was made
to alleviate the traffic at the bridge and further there j
was outlet for that street after it was widened other
no
than Marina Bay area. She stated that it was something
that was going no place and coming from no place and it
would cause more problems. She stated that she did not feel
