called for dis-
cussion.
I
Mr. Hunt said that, I know we have problems
with solicitors-- door to door as well as
telephone. But we also have a lot of
honorable people including insurance sales-
men who earn their living by direct sales.
I think to restrict them to 4: 00 in the
afternoon is unfair. I don~ think 6: 00
is too late. I think we should stick
with 6: 00.
Mr. Rigdon stated that the only argument
I have is that an insurance salesman or
professional salesman can make an appoint-
ment at any time to corne into your home.
This does not prohibit him from going to
houses after 4: 00.
Mr. Hunt said, we are restricting a lot
of legitimate businessmen, and I am opposed
to it. It will penalize the people who
are going to abide by the ordinance, and
the people who are not will do it anyway.
Mrs. Anita Norviel stated that she feels
because there are so many people who work
in Fort Walton Beach, that you are keeping
sales people from contacting the working
people in the City. It is not fair to
tell these people that they cannot contact
potential customers at a time when it is
convenient.
Mayor called for a vote on the amendment
to the motion. Palmer, Rigdon and Bishop
voted YES. Hunt, Hill, Brock, and Baughman
voted NO. Amendment failed.
