Recycling Pragram Update
Tim Bolduc, EngineeringNtilities Services Direetor, updated Council on the Residential
Recycling Pilot Program, including the issue af passible additional costs to the City due to the
closure of a recycling faciiity in Pensacala, which caused an increased materiai load on Allied
Waste who handles the recyciables for the City. Mr. Bolduc cantinued that moving forward to
implement the recycling schedule at this time may result in unforeseen issues and additional
costs to the City, and that these issues may be better resoived by either waiting until a new
facility in Escambia County opens up later this year, or looking far a new solid waste provider.
Mr. Bolduc advised that Staff is recommending a detay in the implementation of the remaining
zones and capping the amount on transportation costs at $ 35.' 70 per ton.
Discussion ensued regarding whether Allied VJaste is honoring their contract with the City; that
the recycling pragram is popular with the residents; and the situation will improve when a new
facility is apen later this year.
The vote on the mation to delay the implementation of the remaining zanes and cap the amount
of transportation casts at $ 35. 70 per ton carried unanimously.
