C Q ~ Resolution 2272 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH RELATING TO AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND HIS STAFF TO APPLY FOR AND ENTER INTO A HIGHWAY BEAUTIFICATION GRANT TO THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ON BEHALF OF THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. WHEREAS, the median strips and the roadside areas abutting State Highway rights-of-way must be maintained and landscaped; and WHEREAS, the City Council is desirous of having the State Highway rights-of-way beautified within the city of Fort Walton Beach by landscaping; and WHEREAS, the economy of the City and State depend heavily on tourists who tend to visit communities that demonstrate concern, illustrated by the cleanliness and beauty of the area; and WHEREAS, the beautification of Miracle Strip Parkway (U.S. 98) within the City of Fort Walton Beach is one of the priorities of the City Council; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA: SECTION I: The City Council of the City of Fort Walton Beach hereby authorizes the City Manager and his staff to apply for and enter into a Highway Beautification Grant from the State of Florida Department of Transportation. SECTION Il: The City Council will pledge at least one-half of the total project expense if the Grant is funded. The City Council understands that the City’s portion of the project will be in-kind services for labor and materials on hand. The labor is budgeted in the General Fund under Right of Way Maintenance and Street Department personnel services line item. SECTION Ill: The City Manager of the City of Fort Walton Beach is hereby directed to send copies of this Resolution to the Department of Transportation and all other persons as appropriate. SECTION IV: This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval by the City Council and signature of the Mayor. ADOPTED: / PF. Box 4009 Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32549 Dear Ms. McKim: I am pleased to inform you that your submission under the 1999-2000 Florida Highway Beautification Grant program has been selected by the Council to receive a Grant for your project along SR 30 (US 98), Miracle Strip Parkway from M.P. 9.472, 7,577 feet to M.P. 10.907. This Grant is in the amount of $58,140.75 which, coupled with your matching contribution of $58,386.67, will result in a total project cost of $116,527.42. If you intend to accept the Grant Award, please relay your intentions within 15 days from the date of this letter. Send your reply, by certified mail, to Mr. Edward Prescott, District Secretary, Florida Department of Transportation, District 3 Office, P.O. Box 607 (US Highway 90), Chipley, Florida 32428-9990. After receiving your certified letter of acceptance, the District Maintenance Engineer's office will send you the agreements which must be signed along with other information concerning the distribution of funds and construction of the project. As stated in the application material, acceptance of the Grant is contingent upon the execution of a Highway Beautification Grant Agreement and Landscape Construction and Maintenance Memorandum of Agreement with the Department. The rule requires the signing, completion and return of these agreements to the Department within a period of 90 days after you receive the - agreements from the District Maintenance Office.
