BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: January 7, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Sunil Harman
SUBJECT: Aviation Advisory Committee Replacement
DEPARTMENT: Airport
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Aviation Advisory Committee (AAC) has submitted a
nominee for a vacant at large position on the Committee, due to the death of one member,
and this nomination is being presented to the Board of County Commissioners for
approval.
BACKGROUND: The Aviation Advisory Committee is comprised of eleven members. The
Committee has a vacant position due to the death of the former Chairman, Mr. Stanley
Bloyer who perished in an airplane accident in March 2013. Mr. Frederick Carnes has
notified the Airport that he is interested in becoming a member and has provided his
resume. The Aviation Advisory Committee met on May 30, 2013 and the discussion of a
new member was on the agenda. Mr. Carnes' resume was reviewed and the Committee
voted unanimously to add him to the Committee with the Board of County Commissioners'
approval. Mr. Carnes' nomination was previously submitted to the Board on July 16, 2013
and was withdrawn due to the Board's requested rewriting of the AAC policy. The next
meeting is scheduled for February 27, 2014 and although no tall structures projects have
been submitted for review currently, we plan on holding the meeting to introduce new
members and to review the new AAC policy that was approved by the Board on November
19, 2013. Also, this meeting will include a briefing of the Sunshine Laws by the County
Attorney. Attached you will find the new AAC Policy, AAC Member Roster, and Mr.
Carnes' resume.
OPTIONS: Approve, Reject or Table.
RECOMMENDATIONS: It is Staff's recommendation that the Board approve Mr. Carnes
for the vacant position on the Aviation Advisory Committee as described above.
