OY on Ao Ae UT aot ORDINANCE (00-7223 AN ORDINANCE GRANTING A VARIANCE TO PERMIT CONSTRUCTION OF METAL BUILDINGS ON CERTAIN REAL PROPERTY WHICH IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA PROVIDING CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS TO THEIR CONSTRUCTION PROVIDING THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF. NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA: SECTION I. That a variance is hereby granted to construct metal buildings and to allow outside storage in a C-2 zone, the said property being in Fort Walton Square Shopping Center accord- ing to the plat attached to this Ordiance which is made a part hereof by reference provided that the following restrictions shall pertain to the property: a. That a buffer zone shall exist between this property and the adjoining residential property in accordance with the existing Ordinance. b. That no truck traffic shall be permitted ingress or and/or Nebraska egress from the said parcel of land to or through Texas /Drive. c. That all metal storage buildings shall be completely enclosed on the rear so as to not permit the items stored therein to be visible from the residential area, the same being primarily the wall on the East side of the parcel of property and that the said ends of the building shall also be enclosed so that the building is enclosed on three (3) sides. SECTION II. This Ordinance shall take affect ten (10) days after its passage and approval by the Mayor. Adjacent to Fort Walton Square Shopping Center Dear Sirs: This letter is to furnish you with additional information as to the vital reason for granting these variances as per attached request: 1. As agent for BEECO, Inc., owner of the Fort Walton Square Shopping, we are negiotiating with a large chain of building supplies , hard= ware, appliances etc. for leasing 50 per cent or 25,000 square of the former retail sales building of Sears, Roebuck & Co. and the lease is contingent upon use of an additional 40,000 to 50,000 sq. feet of land on adjacent property owned by Goodwin Realty & Investment Co. by way of a 15eyear ground lease. 2. The building supply company would erect metal storage areas very similiar to ones behind Moore Handley Co. on Hughes Avenue for use of storing lumber and various other building supplies. Most of the area around the storage buildings will be paved. These buildings would be of first class metal construction and would definitely not be unsightly to surrounding residences. This property is now vacant and no buildings would have to be removed. As you know the Fort Walton Square has suffered qhite an economic loss due to Sears moving from the center to the Santa Rosa Mall in Mary Esther, and this new company would help to revitalize the center and add about 50 to 60 new jobs for the area.
