FORT WALTON BEACH
MEMORANDUM
To: Joyce Shanahan, City Manager
From: Cam Johnson, Public Information Officer
Date: June 12, 2008
Subject: City of Fort Walton Beach Youth Commission Fundraiser
B.,
ackaround:
The Fort Walton Beach Youth Committee was created in 2007 to advise City Council of
issues important to the area' s youth. In addition to advising Council, Committee
Members have discussed the possibility of hosting events for the youth that would
provide a safe, alcohol and drug free environment for young people to gather.
Discussion:
The Youth Committee has expressed a desire to host a concert event for the youth at
the Fort Walton Landing in the fall of 2008. Due to budget constraints, the Committee
has no funds to use for any purpose. Committee Members discussed several ways to
raise money to use for bands, advertising and other costs associated with special
events. They decided on a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser to generate the revenue. By
hosting this fundraiser, the Committee feels they could raise money to pay for bands
and other entertainment to appear at the event.
Recommendation:
Staff respectfully requests that the City Council allow the City of Fort Walton Beach
Youth Committee to host a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser to generate revenue for the
Committee' s events /programs.
