Beedie, City Manager From: Ted Litschauer, Police Chief Date: February 25, 2014 Subject: 2014 -3 - Accepting Justice Assistance Grant Funding 1. BACKGROUND: 1. 1. In Federal Fiscal Year 2013, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement received notice from the U.S. Department of Justice regarding available funding for the Justice Assistance Grant - Florida JAG Direct. 1. 2. The City of Fort Walton Beach submitted an application on November 21, 2013, for funding assistance 1. 3. On February 6, 2014, the City of Fort Walton Beach received notification of an award of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice assistance Grant in the amount of $4, 863. 00 for a project entitled " Essential Equipment Replacement ". 2. DISCUSSION: 2. 1. In recent years, the Police Department has encountered fiscal challenges which have impeded or limited the Department' s ability to replace worn or decrepit items. Acquisition of necessary items will increase operational efficiency and safety. 2. 2. Upon acceptance of the grant, the Police Department will use the funding for the purchase of miscellaneous office and tactical equipment. 2. 2. 1. The office equipment will serve administrative needs and replace items worn beyond serviceability. 2. 2. 2. The tactical equipment will enhance officer safety by providing greater protection in high risk operations. 3. FINANCIAL INFORMATION: 3. 1. The project is 100% grant funded; no matching funds are required. 3. 2. There are no anticipated expenses in future years. 3. 3. A budget amendment will record the grant revenue and expense. 4. RECOMMENDATION: 4. 1.
