Re: Spring Break Funding for Sheriff Services
Dear Mr. Darrel Jones, Interim Director:
Okaloosa County and the City of Destin would like to thank the Okaloosa County Tourist Development
Department for the contribution of $25,000 for Sheriff Services during the FY2017 spring break. In FY2016
Okaloosa County and the City of Destin received a budget from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's office of
$107,150 for these additional services. The sheriff’s office, with respect to the approved budget, spent
$79,310.43 which was paid for on a 70/30 basis between the County and City.
The FY2017 spring break is approximately 2 weeks longer than FY2016. Using some best practices learned
from FY2016 and the extended spring break timeframe, the Sheriff has proposed a budget of $146,941.20. By
reducing this proposal by the $25,000 TDD contribution and splitting the remaining budget on a 50/50 basis,
this leaves $60,970.60 to be funded by Okaloosa County and the City of Destin. Neither entity anticipated the
increased cost for this service.
The City of Destin is asking the Tourist Development Department if there is additional funding available that
will help to reduce the 50% cost afforded by Okaloosa County.
Thanks for your help with this matter.
