Chief Vesey explained they requested $ 56, 700 in
overtime. Their overtime expenses very high
are due to
parades, special activities, football games, races, etc.
He felt that some of the people in charge of these
events should have to pay for the police assistance, and
not the City.
The City Manager mentioned Council has to establish a
policy for him to follow, and he has been following a
policy that has been in existence. He is not against
the policy, but would like to flex it. As far as
covering football games, band trips. a lot of things to
do with the school system, Billy Bowlegs Festivals,
Church activities. and other things mentioned by Chief
Vesey, is it the policy of Council that the City pay the
bill for the Police Department for this activity or that
the organization be billed. He felt a quick answer
should come from Council so the organizations could plan
for it in their budgets.
When asked for information concerning this matter, the
City Manager assured that information will be provided
at the next workshop.

budgeted last year for overtime versus $ 97, 000 this

the men were reaching the mandatory accumulation of comp

It was decided that Council would read the remaining
information on each department themselves and address
the capital outlay the other
