BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: May 17, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Kathy Newby SUBJECT: Blue Star Mothers Proclamation DEPARTMENT: County Administrator BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of the Proclamation designating the month of May, 2016, as Blue Star Mothers of America Month. BACKGROUND: The Northwest Florida Chapter 7 of the Blue Star Mothers of America (BSMA) was established in Okaloosa County in 2009. In the month of May, the Blue Star Mothers of America flag flies on select County Buildings. The Blue Star Mothers of America was established by Congress to support the sons and daughters serving in the United States Armed Forces. Along with this Proclamation, BSMA requests the Board approve flying the Blue Star flag/banner on County flag poles annually during the month of May. RECOMMENDATION: Board approval of Proclamation of "Blue Star Mothers of America Month" and flying Blue Star flag on County flagpoles during the month of May. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: John Hofstad, County Administrator
