BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: November 1, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Roland Sims Jr. SUBJECT: Public Hearing: Amendment of Tourist Development Ordinance DEPARTMENT: County Administrator BCC DISTRICT: ALL STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Public Hearing for the Adoption of Ordinance designating the Department of Revenue as the entity for the Collection of Tourist Development Taxes. BACKGROUND: On October 18, 2016, the Board unanimously authorized the scheduling and advertisement of a public hearing to consider an ordinance that would amend the Tourist Development Ordinance to designate the Department of Revenue to collect Tourist Development Taxes. The amendment also clarifies that local administration could be funded through tourist development proceeds. If approved, it is contemplated that the Department of Revenue would assume collection responsibilities effective March 1, 2017. The proposed amendments to the Tourist Development Ordinance are identified as follows: stricken words indicate deletions and underlined words indicate additions. OPTIONS: Approve or Disapprove RECOMMENDATION: Adopt the Ordinance amending the Tourist Development Ordinance to designate the Department of Revenue as the entity to collect Tourist Development Taxes and provide for administration.
