RESOLUTION 08-42 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING EQUIPMENT THROUGH THE FLORIDA LAW ENFORCEMENT CHALLENGE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AWARD DOCUMENTS; AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ORDER EQUIPMENT; AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: The Florida Department of Transportation, through the Florida Law Enforcement Challenge, awards points to the top three winners in each department size category of the competition. The City of Fort Walton Beach placed first in its category and was awarded 12, 000 points, which translates to $ 12, 000 toward the purchase of safety and enforcement equipment from the Law Enforcement Challenge website. The City Council finds that it is in the best interests of the citizens of Fort Walton Beach to participate in the Florida Law Enforcement Challenge. Therefore, the City Council hereby authorizes the City Manager to execute award documents if necessary and the Police Department to implement the initiative and order equipment from the Florida Law Enforcement Challenge website. A budget amendment will not be needed, though the equipment will be recorded in the City' s fixed asset system. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval by the City Council.
