ceEA. R_Ol'i.OF"SIGN CODES OF CITY ANDCOUNrY!
Presentation on the comparison of the Okaloosa County and City of Fort Walton Beach
sign codes and consideration
of establishing a semi- annual public workshop to review the City' s Sign Code identifying areas of concern as
outlined in the backup report.
The CDS Director explained the differences between the
sign codes of the county and city and advised the City' s
sign code is designed to permit specific signage tailored to a particular zoning district. She described the City' s sign
code as a " living" document, whereas it is
continually being fine- tuned to address specific concerns of business and
residents.
The CDS Director advised Staff recommendations include
holding public workshops every 6 months to identify
areas of concern and build public consensus regarding changes to the sign code, and amending the sign code to
address those identified areas.
Mr. Tucker moved to 1) Hold a public
workshop every six ( 6) months to identify areas of concern and build
public consensus regarding any changes to the City' s sign code. 2) Identify key areas of concern through
citizen and sign industry input ( workshop,
survey, etc.) and amend the City' s sign code to address those
identified concerns based on a consensus of the residents, business owners and
sign industry. 3) Hold the first
Sign Code workshop in January 2004 to address areas of concern. 4) Present findings of the workshop to the
City Council in February 2004 with recommended changes to the Sign Code, if any. Mr. Kelley seconded
motion and it carried unanimously with Holmes, Patterson,
Campbell, Tucker, Kelley, and Anderson in favor
