need for item four, a concrete plan, from this Committee. But you can have all the facts and practices you want. In addition, item four has Sunshine Law problems. It can only be met by a committee thatmeets the Sunshine Law requirements, and our does not. Granted, there are " cures" that can legally be made to put a fact- fmding Committee under the Sunshine if it needs to make a recommendation, but these " cures" may not apply to our Committee. The " cure" is intended to correct a cominittee that was inadvertently left out of the Sunshine, or whose goals change during the course of their meetings. Neither of these applies to us. We always knew any recommendation would have to be composed in the SUnshine, the City Attorney briefed us on this at the second Committee meeting, and clarified it again at the third Committee meeting. Our goals haven' t changed either; the four items above have been with us from the beginning. Now here is my recommendation to you. Give up the fourth item, ask for no recommendations from the Committee. Just ask us for the basket of facts and practices that we accumulated under the first three items. We can provide you with an extensive, organized list. i J 58 09/ 09/ 03 I further recommend you take this basket offacts and practices to your Museums staff: and dump it on their desks. Tell them to sift it and select those most applicable to the Museums. Promise them that the City will help through them implement those selected. Then tell them the Council will look at them in a year, and see what they' ve done. If the Museums staff has half the ability and dedication our fact- finding has found in them, you will be pleasantly surprised. Thank you. Presented to Fort Walton Beach City Council 9- 9- 03" Tommy Abood, 3857 Indian Trail, Destin, and member of the Museums Ad Hoc Committee, discussed the possibility of Okaloosa County assuming the operations of the museum facilities and reacl a letter from Commissioner Jackie Burkett. The Interim City Manager advised she had spoken with the Chairman of the committee on this issue and concluded it would be best to speak with the County Manager to ascertain the County' s support of the idea. She advised if the entire commission is supportive, then Staff will make arrangements to move forward in that regard. Tourey Guarino, 35 Pryor Road, SE, and member of the Museums Ad Hoc Committee, voiced her concerns and feels the Ad Hoc Committee does have a common vision and will be able to complete all the tasks proposed by Council. Council discussed the letter from Commissioner Burkett and stressed it was never the desire of the Council to give need to be involved in any discussions up the operation of the museum. It was also felt that the County does not regarding the museums, and that the formation of the committee was to discuss ways to improve the museum. Mr. Kelley moved to have the Museums Ad Hoc Advisory Committee continue to move forward and present their fact findings to Council by the first of the year. Mr. Tucker seconded motion. The City Attorney advised the committee is struggling with their role as a fact- finding committee. The Mayor called for the vote on the motion and it carried unanimously with Holmes, Patterson, Campbell, Tucker, Pullen, Kelley, and Anderson in favor.
