STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of funding in the amount of $8,000 to conduct an
Asbestos Survey of the buildings to be demolished at the former Shalimar Annex
BACKGROUND: A design-build project is currently in development to demolish the five
current buildings nearest to Eglin Parkway at the former Shalimar Courthouse Annex campus
and replace them with a new multi-story building for county use. Prior to any demolition
activity occurring at the site, a full asbestos survey must be conducted by a firm competent to
perform such surveys and for any asbestos containing materials (ACM) that are identified to be
present to be properly abated from the premises.
The Purchasing Department took quotes from competent firms with the lowest quote being from
Southern Earth Sciences in the amount of $8,000.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Request approval of funding in the amount of $8,000 to conduct an
Asbestos Survey of the buildings to be demolished at the former Shalimar Annex and for those
funds to be transferred from 301-3160 Capital Projects Reserve to Facilities Maintenance 0112-
546620.
