ALTERNATIVE WATER The City Manager explained the purpose of this item is to
SUPPLY provide Council with information on the progress to date on
the efforts by members of the RUA South County Sub Basin
Jurisdiction regarding the alternate water supply issue.
He discussed the possibility of participating with the
county in the cost of construction of a water line that may
be built bring in
to water to the south county
communities. By participating in the construction of the
line, the ould be
City ..... in the position of having part
ownership in the pipeline; therefore, the City would not be
forced to be a water customer of the county. The City
Manager continued by saying the county is looking at a
20- inch water line, but the City would like to increase the
line to 24 inches and pay the cost difference for the
larger size line, thus having capacity in the line.
He stressed that a lot of information is needed on this
endeavor, including how the City would finance it, and
direction from Council would be required. The City
Manager stated that right now the water wells are in good
shape but that we need to begin looking to the future,
including the possibility of forming a Regional Water
Utility that would serve some of the south county
communities.
SOFTBALL COMPLEX The City Manager discussed the possibility of purchasing
PURCHASE the City Softball Complex on Lewis Turner Blvd. from the
U. S. Forest Service, and requested direction from Council
on the matter. He explained the City' s use permit expires
in 1999, and the City is interested in acquiring the
Softball Complex, as well as additional land that is part
of the fairgrounds for parking, if the price is right.
Council has discussed in the past the option of looking at
acquiring all 42 acres. The City Manager stated the Forest
Service had an appraisal done on the 42 acres with a price
around $ 75, 000 an acre, which would be very expensive for
the City to purchase.

SOFTBALL COMPLEX Discussion ensued regarding joining the County and
CONT) Fairgrounds to get a common appraisal; obtaining a separate
appraisal; and pursuing renewing the use permit.
Consensus of Council was to negotiate with the County for
the City to purchase the 12- acre Softball Complex and
additional acreage and parking, and if the City is not able
to successfully negotiate, to obtain their own appraisal
for the purchase of the 12 acres plus parking acreage.
