BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: May 3, 2016
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Larry Ashley, Sheriff
SUBJECT: Approval to Submit Grant Application for Sheriff's Office
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request the Okaloosa County Board of Commissioners approve the
Okaloosa County Clerk of Courts (on behalf of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office) to apply
for the Department of Justice 2016 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant.
BACKGROUND: The grant will potentially fund up to 50-percent of the cost of ballistic

The Sheriff's Office will request funding to purchase 148 vests during the two year performance
period of the grant at a total cost of $108,632.00. The federal amount requested would be 50-
percent, or $54,316.00. The actual amount of the award will not be known until after the
application is submitted and the Department of Justice assigns an allocated amount based on
federal appropriations.
RECOMMENDATION: Request the Board of County Commissioners review and approve the
application submission and authorize the Chairman to sign the application, the grant acceptance
if awarded, and all future grant documents during the term of the grant. Request the Board
authorize the Contracts & Grants office to submit the on-line application and on-line submission
of future grant documents during the term of the grant.
