Re: Paving Assistance
Mr. Hofstad,
The City of Laurel Hill is attempting to put our limited funding to the best possible use in an
effort to address our road issues. Looking at options, we are requesting assistance from
Okaloosa County in the form of labor and equipment to overlay City roads. The City can then
use its funding for the purchase of materials to pave the roads.
This would greatly assist the City by stretching our limited budget dollars in treating as much of
the roadway as possible, while not requiring any direct expense to Okaloosa County.
Based on our expected annual budget funding from fuel taxes, we expect to be able to buy
enough asphalt to overlay 1/2 mile of road per year (based on one and a half inches (1.5”) of
asphalt and tack at $68,000 per mile. With unused revenue received for the past three years we
could buy asphalt for one (1) additional mile of asphalt during FY2013. The overlay for FY2013
will be in order (1) Sunnyside Avenue (Highway 85 to Third Street) approximately 0.4 mile (2)
Steel Mill Creek Road (City Limits to 7928 Steel Mill Creek Road) approximately 1.0 mile.
The City understands that the Okaloosa County staff has other projects to attend to and this work
would be completed as Okaloosa County's schedule will allow.
Please contact me at (850) 652 4441 or clhchair@fairpoint net if you require any additional
information or for further assistance.
Sincerely,
EBS
Laurel Hill City Council Chairman
