P ROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Health, formally the State Board of
Health, was established 125 years ago on February 20, 1889 to control the devastating
epidemics sweeping Florida; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County has faithfully
served the health needs of Okaloosa County residents for more than seventy years; and
WHEREAS, Liza Jackson and the Women’s Club worked tirelessly to lay the
groundwork for public health in our community until the Florida Department of Health
in Okaloosa County was formed in 1941; and
WHEREAS, the dedicated public health professionals who work for the Florida
Department of Health in Okaloosa County continue to serve the needs of our community
by providing health services, monitoring and responding to emerging health threats, and
promoting healthy choices for all who live, work, and play in Okaloosa County;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Okaloosa County that we do hereby proclaim our recognition of the
125th Anniversary of Florida Public Health
along with our Public Health Hero, Liza Jackson,
and ask that all residents join us in extending our sincere gratitude to the staff of the
Florida Department of Health and dedicated county residents, past and present, for their
commitment to the people of our communities during these one hundred and twenty-five
years.
DULY PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of February 2014.
