FROM: Rev. Dr. Tommye L. Walker, Sr., Polemarch
Felix L. Cole, Youth Super Day 2013 Chairman
TO: Greater Fort Walton Beach Area Businesses
DATE: February 8, 2013
SUBJECT: Youth Super Day 2013 Community Service Event
The Fort Walton Beach Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. together with the
City of Fort Walton Beach, FL & the Okaloosa County Branch of the NAACP Youth Council
solicits your support for our upcoming 14th Annual Youth Super Day Community Service Event
to be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The theme of this year’s program is "LEARN TODAY
TO LEAD TOMORROW”. This is our chapter’s premier community service project. Over the
past 14 years, the partnerships formed with organizations like yours have been invaluable in
supplementing our efforts that ensured a successful Youth Super Day program.
Youth Super Day is a full day of exciting activities which benefits and inspires young men and
women. The morning session is primarily a motivational workshop featuring community leaders
and distinguished guests from various professions. Panel members will answer questions and
provide encouraging speeches about staying in school and pursing their dreams. The afternoon
session is a spring day in the park consisting of food, fun, and games, live music, physical fitness
demonstrations and more. Trophies and prizes donated by local businesses are awarded to all
youth participants.
Youth Super Day has been growing in both participation and popularity each year. Last year
over 300 youth participated in the program. The continued success of this event is due in large
part to the support we have received from the community and panel guests including: Wing
Commanders from Eglin Air Force Base/Hurlburt Field, Mayor of Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa
County School Superintendent, President of Northwest Florida State College, Fort Walton Beach
Police and Fire Department Chiefs, and the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Chief
Administrator.
We are seeking and need your support again this year, which is paramount for a successful
Youth Super Day. As with any endeavor such as this, it takes funding to make it a reality.

List the specific expenses in the areas of Drug Treatment, Drug Abuse Education, Crime Prevention,
Safe Neighborhoods, or Other Law Enforcement Purposes that these funds will be used:
In Okaloosa County, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast (BGCEC) partners with the Okaloosa County
Sheriff's Department to bring speakers, demonstrations, and presentations to the Club members to
continue educating and warning our youth about drug abuse, crime prevention, and dangers of un-safe
neighborhoods. BGCEC educates, warns, and prepares youth how to avoid peers that may be involved
in illegal behaviors and situations that can place them in the wrong place at the wrong time. With
BGCEC’s many programs to educate youth on making smart decisions when away from the Club, it also
keeps them safe, off the streets, and away from negative situations or people that are involved in illegal
behavior, or already committing crimes those crimes. Recently WEAR TV 3 revealed facts from a new
report revealing that fewer young people in the U.S. are being sent to Residential Juvenile Justice
Programs. In Okaloosa County specifically, incarcerations have dropped 65% over the past five
years. Florida's Juvenile Justice Secretary said there’s also been a decrease in arrests, school-based
delinquency, and the transfer of young offenders to adult prisons. Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is
now developing a "Roadmap to System Excellence" that aims to keep more young offenders out of
residential facilities by giving families more support and providing better access to community
resources. BGCEC is that major resource for those families and youth in our areas. BGCEC goals are in-
line of those with Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department. BGCEC strives to better our community,
create great community leaders, ensure our youth graduate high school on time with a plan for their
future, provide targeted programming pertaining to prevention of involvement with drugs and alcohol,
and keeping their neighborhoods safe. BGCEC’s Street Smarts Program educates Club members ages 6-
18 on early gang prevention and anti-bullying; the S.M.A.R.T. (Skills, Mastery, and Resistance Training)
Moves Program for ages 6-18 addresses health concerns of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and how to
overcome peer pressure to avoid involvement in those dangerous behaviors. The funds received from
Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department
