SUBJECT: Public Safety Medical Director Contract Renewal
DEPARTMENT: Public Safety

STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Contract renewal between the Board of County Commissioners and
Dr. Christopher D. Tanner for his services as Medical Director of the Okaloosa County
Department of Public Safety at a cost of $16,000.00 annually, which is included in the EMS
budget. The renewal extends the contract for one additional year from October 1, 2014, through
September 30, 2015.
BACKGROUND: Dr. Tanner is an independent contractor and has his own insurance as
required in the memorandum of agreement. Per Florida Statute Chapter 401.265, Okaloosa
County Public Safety is required to have a medical director. Dr. Tanner has been the medical
director for Okaloosa County Public Safety since 2000, as initially approved by the Board of
County Commissioners. Per Purchasing guidelines, contracts/agreements initially approved by
the Board must be approved by the Board upon renewal.
OPTIONS: Approve or disapprove.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the contract renewal.
