Dear Mr. Taylor:
As you are aware, Okaloosa County has been working to maintain a high level of services
for its citizens in these hard economic times. As part of these efforts, the Board of County
Commissioners has been exploring the possibilities of alternative revenue sources to assist in the
provision of these essential services.
During the Board’s Budget Policy Workshop held on April 9, 2013 in preparation for the
upcoming fiscal year, a variety of potential revenue sources were discussed including the
granting of utility franchises including the collection of franchise fees. As a result of these
discussions, we would like your input on the issue and hopefully your assistance in working
together for the establishment of an agreement with Okaloosa County for the granting of a
franchise, including the collection of a franchise fee.
As you are aware, numerous local governments in the area have entered into franchise
fees with utility providers and it is our understanding that Gulf Power has entered into several
such agreements. As such, the Board sincerely hopes that Okaloosa County and your utility
company can work together to explore entering into such an agreement.
We look forward to working with you on these issues. Please give me a call if you would like to
discuss further.
Sincerely,
Don Amunds
Chairman
