FY2012 County Waste Flow
• Currently, the County controls about 28% of the waste stream (County Franchise and
County Operations).
• At the current tipping fees, $3.5M in revenue is generated annually from municipal and
commercial waste currently collected outside of the County’s franchise (53% of waste
currently received).
• A Commercial franchise would enable control over another 26% of waste currently
delivered ($1.9M in tipping fees), in addition to an undetermined amount of commercial
waste currently delivered to other facilities.

• Florida law requires 3-year notification prior to franchising solid waste collection service
that previously was open market.
• Current collection contract expires March 2016; therefore, commercial franchise
notification would ideally be given by March 2013.
