BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: November 1, 2016 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Elliot Kampert SUBJECT: Approval of Additional Funds for Publication of Flood Facts in Telephone Book DEPARTMENT: Growth Management BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The bill for publishing the Flood Facts Flyer information in the Dex Media telephone book is $81.68 more than the amount provided in the associated Purchase Order. Because the amount of the bill exceeds the amount of the PO, the Board must approve the additional amount. BACKGROUND: Okaloosa County participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through which County property owners are able to obtain federal flood insurance. In order to help reduce the cost of flood insurance premiums to County policy-holders, the County participates in the Community Rating System (CRS) administered by the Insurance Services Organization (ISO) which assesses each participating community's efforts to reduce flood hazard and mitigate damage. The CRS program provides incentives for NFIP communities to implement more stringent floodplain standards than the minimum NFIP requirements by providing discounts on flood insurance premiums based on the activities of the participating community. Okaloosa County currently holds a Class 5 CRS rating which results in a 25% discount on new or renewing flood insurance policies for all properties within the Special Flood Hazard Areas. One of the activities for which Okaloosa County receives points for its CRS rating is the annual publication of "Flood Facts" information in the Dex Media telephone directory. Based on previous years' publications and after discussion with Dex Media, the Planning Division of the Growth Management Department submitted Purchase Order 21600790 in the amount of $2,400 to allow publication. However, the actual bill received from Dex Media is slightly more, $2,481.68. Because the amount of the bill exceeds the amount on the Purchase Order, the Board of County Commissioners must approve the additional amount ($81.68). OPTIONS: The Board may approve or disapprove the additional $81.68 for publication of Flood Information in the Dex Media telephone directory. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners authorize that the amount authorized in Purchase Order 21600790 be increased by $81.68 for a total payment of $2,481.68 to Dex Media for publication of Flood Facts Flyer information in the Dex Media Telephone directory. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: John Hofstad, County Administrator
