STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request the Board authorize the Chairman to execute Contract
Amendment #3 with Corizon Health Inc. Corizon Health Inc provides medical services to
inmates detained in the County Jail.
BACKGROUND: The current contract (Corizon Amendment #1) with Corizon Health Inc
allows Corizon to adjust its current staffing plan to include an additional Full Time Registered
Nurse, upon termination of employment of a county employed Registered Nurse. When the
Department of Corrections first contracted for inmate health services, county employed medical
staff with greater than five years service were allowed to continue as county employees. The last
remaining county employed nurse retired in December 2014, after more than 24 years loyal
service. The contract authorizes the adjustment herein described. The cost added to the contract
equals $77,668.00 annually. The cost for the additional Registered Nurse is off-set by the now
vacated/eliminated county employee position.
The amendment also replaces 1 Full Time Certified Nursing Assistant with 0.8 Full Time
Licensed Practical Nurse.
