Each calendar year, City Council appoints a representative to serve on the Chamber of Commerce Board. 2. DISCUSSION: 2. 1. The appointment to the Chamber of Commerce Board is an annual appointment from January I" through December 31 ". The current City Council representative is Mayor Mike Anderson, whose appointment was extended through March 31, 2013 at the December 11, 2012 City Council meeting. 2. 2. The representative gives an update to the Chamber of Commerce Board on any issues and activities relative to the representative' s City. The Chamber of Commerce Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 11: 00 a. m. at the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce office located at 34 Miracle Strip Parkway SE in Fort Walton Beach. 3. RECOMMENDATION: 3. 1. Staff respectfully recommends City Council appointment of a Council member to serve on the Chamber of Commerce Board from April 1, 2013, through December 31, 2013. Each year, City Council appoints a representative to serve on the Economic Development Council ( EDC) Policy Board. 2. DISCUSSION: 2. 1. The appointment to the EDC Policy Board is an annual appointment from April I" through March 31'. The current City Council representative is Council member ioyice Billie eossom. 2. 2. The EDC' s primary objectives are 1) to facilitate industrial growth and diversity, 2) develop a technically skilled workforce, 3) stimulate growth among our technology based businesses, 4) attract wealth -generating industries, and 5) facilitate high skill, high wage jobs to Okaloosa County to promote a better quality of living. The Policy Board is the directive body that manages the affairs of the EDC. The Board' s responsibilities shall include overseeing the work program of the EDC, serving as the nominating committee to select succeeding Policy Boards, interfacing with local governments and all chambers of commerce, and reviewing all programs and strategics of the EDC to determine issues of concern and courses of action for the EDC. The EDC Policy Board meets the third Thursday every other month at 3: 30 p. m. at the Northwest Florida State College Campus in Niceville in Building K. 3. 3. 1.
