17. MAYOR/ COUNCIL COMMENTS
Dr. gossom advised Fort Walton Beach was included in a study that found the City was strong in
the areas of hazard mitigation, local government involvement and local government autonomy.
Dr. gossom discussed a process that would provide for non -city based organizations or
individuals to speak with the City Council. Discussion included that there is an item on every
agenda for the general public to speak to Council about any item not on the agenda, and that
Councilmembers can ask for an issue to be placed on an agenda. Dr. gossom advised she was
clearer on the process as it stands.
Mr. Rigdon mentioned the previous discussion regarding a homeless shelter and questioned
whether it would actually keep people off the street. It was noted that if stores and organizations
stop providing services to them, homeless individuals will leave and the problem will cease.
The Mayor attended a moving 9/ 11 Ceremony at Uptown Station and that several City police
officer were in attendance; he attended the Ethics Workshop presented by the Florida League of
Cities; he presented some awards at the golf club and received compliments on the course;
