CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Brandy Wunker, Finance Director, advised this ordinance closes the defined benefit plan to all
new hires effective January 1, 2010, and all employees hired on or after that date will become a
member of the defined contribution plan.
Discussion ensued regarding the 30 -day window given to employees to transfer into the new
plan, and why it is not an open enrollment period. Ms. Wunker explained that although a 30 -day
limit is important from a cash -flow perspective and is a benefit to the City if employees transfer
over, it takes cash out of the defined benefit plan and employees that switch over will have to
pay a refund of their contributions back to themselves from the defined benefit plan.
