STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval of the agreement to continue the Veterans' Court
Coordinator position for the period of June 22, 2015 - June 30, 2016, with funds from the State
of Florida award allocation.
BACKGROUND: Okaloosa County Veterans’ Court was awarded $150,000 from the State of
Florida to use during their fiscal year July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2016. Staff is requesting approval
to utilize the funds from the State of Florida award allocation to continue the Veterans’ Court
Coordinator full-time position for the period June 22, 2015 - June 30, 2016. The full-time status
includes FICA, retirement, workers’ compensation, leave accrual, holidays, and
health/life/dental/long term disability benefits. County policies and procedures will apply to this
employee in the same manner as any other county employee to include any salary increases that
might be awarded based on cost of living or performance. Initial funding will be charged 100%
to the Judicial Innovations Fund and the Fund will be reimbursed by the State of Florida Award
monies as outlined in the contract. The amount of funding will be approximately $53,504.24.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends: 1) Approval of the Agreement for the Funding of
Court Personnel between the First Judicial Circuit of Florida and Okaloosa County, Florida,
which will continue the Veterans’ Court Coordinator full-time position effective June 22, 2015
until June 30, 2016; and 2) Authorization for the Chairman to execute the Agreement between
the First Judicial Circuit of Florida and Okaloosa County, Florida.
