BACKGROUND: The Okaloosa Gas District Board of Directors was formed by legislative act in 1953 and initially included the municipalities of Crestview, Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, and Valparaiso. This Act was amended in 1986 to include a representative of the unincorporated portions of Okaloosa County, to be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The representative re-appointed by the BCC in October 2010 began his current term in January 2011 and tendered his resignation after receiving an appointment to represent the City of Fort Walton Beach on the OGDBOD. He resigned effective January 31, 2013 with approximately two years remaining on his appointed term. At the BCC meeting on January 22, 2013, the Board approved to advertise the vacancy on the Okaloosa Gas District Board for the next 30 days and to seek individuals who live in the unincorporated areas of the county, have a minimum of three years residency, and are a customer of Okaloosa Gas. After announcing the position through a news release, staff received two applications for the position from individuals who meet the criteria adopted by Board. The information on these applicants did not meet the Board at the August 20, 2013 meeting and is attached to this item. Since the August 20, 2013 meeting, a third candidate has requested consideration. Mr. Frederick Pryor's information is also attached for Board consideration. Mr. Pryor lives in incorporated Mary Esther and therefore will not meet the criteria established by the Board that the candidate must reside in unincorporated Okaloosa County; unless the criteria is modified by Board action. RECOMMENDATIONS: Board discussion and further direction concerning a new representative to be appointed by the BCC. RECOMMENDED BY: Packet Pg. 518 APPROVED BY: Ernie Padgett, County Administrator Packet Pg. 519 Packet Pg. 520 Monday, February 25, 2013 Board of County Commissioners Okaloosa County Re: Okaloosa Gas District Representative Gentlemen, Please consider me for appointment as your representative to the Okaloosa Gas District Board of Directors.
