The Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) is continuing the planning of its Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Data Science (DS)/Machine
Learning (ML) program. We have a contracted liaison in place who is working directly with the University of Florida and Dr. Nancy
Ruzycki. We have finalized a Contract and Scope of Work which are now in the approval phase. The University of Florida will be writing
Florida Department of Education (FDOE) Curriculum Frameworks for a new AI/DS/ML program in the Information Technology cluster to
be submitted to FDOE in the fall of 2022.
To prepare for the upcoming year (2022-2023), our local instructors will undergo a week-long boot camp in May 2022 led by UF and
hosted by the Doolittle Institute. According to Amazon’s career Web site for technical positions, the Python programming language is a
high demand skill in the world of AI. We will continue to track industry-defined needs as we build the program backwards to elementary
and further through high school and are excited about working with other districts following our implementation.
