BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: February 5, 2013
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: James D. Curry
SUBJECT: RESTORE Act Committee Resolution
DEPARTMENT: County Administrator
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Approval of resolution to memorialize formation of an advisory
committee to oversee execution of RESTORE Act provisions and an application for appointment
of members to the committee.
BACKGROUND: In response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill that took place in the summer
of 2010, the United States Congress has enacted the Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability,
Tourist Opportunities and Revised Economies Act of 2012 (RESTORE). Each
disproportionately affected county in Florida will be receiving funds from fines and settlements
that will be collected by the federal government.
The Board of County Commissioners will establish a plan for the use of any and all RESTORE
funds and determine the composition of an advisory council to the Board on the use of those
funds. The Board continued discussions at a Workshop held on January 15, 2013. At that
workshop, the Board listened to input from the public and discussed formation of an Advisory
Committee to govern activities and projects permissible under the provisions of the RESTORE
Act. Attached is the draft resolution memorializing this committee.
Also attached is a proposed application for seating on the committee.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove
RECOMMENDATIONS: Amend as determined necessary and consider approval of resolution
and application for seating on the RESTORE Advisory Committee.
