BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: April 7, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Jason Autrey SUBJECT: Special Event Permit - Snowman's Run 2015 DEPARTMENT: Public Works BCC DISTRICT: Two STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Tyler Hambrick has requested permission to utilize county parking area to conduct a car show. BACKGROUND and ANALYSIS: County Ordinance #13-07 (regulation of county recreational areas, including parks and beaches) addresses Special Events at county parks, beaches, or recreational areas within Okaloosa County. A request has been received from Tyler Hambrick to conduct a car show at the Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island to raise funds for wounded veterans. The car show will feature about 25 vintage cars and a semi rig replica of the truck from the Smokey and the Bandit movies. Static displays of the vehicles will be setup in the Northeast portion of the parking lot at The Boardwalk, shown outlined in blue on the attached site plan. There will also be two information booths for product sales and promotion of Fisher House of the Emerald Coast. The displays at the Boardwalk will be open 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26. Tyler Hambrick is donating the proceeds to the Fisher House of the Emerald Coast which is a non-profit organization, with the exception of funds for fuel and continued maintenance of the vehicles. He and his team volunteer their time to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. Tyler Hambrick has requested waiver of fees for this Special Event Permit. Board policy is that the waiver of permit fees is granted to those organizations that provide proof of non-profit status. Tyler Hambrick's request does not meet the not-for-profit organization criteria of the county policy. This request has been reviewed by Public Works, Public Safety, and the Sheriff’s Office. The Lessee at the Boardwalk has concurred with the request. OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the request as submitted by Tyler Hambrick for a Special Event Permit and require payment of permit fees as required by County Ordinance. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: John Hofstad, County Administrator
