Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program a
In Brief)
This prestigious, nationally respected scholarship program is by NO MEANS a " beauty
pageant" - instead, it is a competition for high -achieving high school girls who are
driven to succeed Et who will likely be our future leaders, probably sitting in some of
your positions themselves in the coming years. We want to encourage these young
women to help us perpetuate the grandeur of our county , by providing them with the
skills it takes to become a great leader, Et to get the best possible education.
To do so, the girls who enroll in this program complete a process of learning how to
interview, to do public speaking, how to effectively write to communicate properly,
Et participate in an outreach program called, " Be Your Best Self' , when they mentor
to younger girls the elements that it takes to succeed.
They also compete for college scholarship money. This money comes SOLELY from
tax -deductible donations provided by the communities themselves. Okaloosa County
is NOT a depressed, rural area, Et should be strong enough in its success to generously
donate their TAX -DEDUCTIBLE donations to this highly- regarded program.
Unfortunately, it has been absent from our area for about 10 years, but is being
brought back now with an excited board of directors Et team of 25 people from EVERY
community in the county - we are working together to see that we send the best
possible representative to the STATE level, where she will compete with the other
The
local winners from other Florida counties, for even more scholarship money.
STATE overall winner will advance to the NATIONALS competition held in Mobile, AL
The Board of
every year. Again - they compete for even more scholarship money.
Directors Et Team for Okaloosa County Distinguished Young Women strongly believes
that our local county winner can win STATE as well, thereby representing our county
in the NATIONALS in Mobile. Our area is full of championship families which breed
championship children - we are a strong county in education Et we believe by
perpetuating our potential, that we will further attract families to vacation Et want
to live here as well.
The 5 categories that the girls compete in are: GRADES, FITNESS, TALENT,
INTERVIEW, Et SELF -EXPRESSION ( public speaking). Please consider attending this
year' s program , to be held centrally in the county -
at Niceville High School - on the
NIGHT of Aug 11th, and above all - please consider making a yearly donation in the
name of the CITY of FWB. Everyone will want to have some ownership in this
program, Et we feel that the city governments will benefit from having done so as
well. We list all donors in the printed programs and thank them publicly as well.
Thank you for this consideration!
