BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: October 1, 2013 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Don Turner SUBJECT: Shalimar Annex Project - Financial Data DEPARTMENT: Facility Maintenance BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request Board consideration and direction regarding pending space planning projects related to the financial data presented. BACKGROUND: Okaloosa County is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to lease office and records storage space from various private sector firms. Since the need for the space being leased for the various county operations is real and ongoing, it may be in the county's best interest to provide county owned space in lieu of the leased space. Okaloosa County currently owns three severely underutilized properties containing a combined space of more than 100,000 s.f. They have the potential to provide for most, or all of the current and near term space needs of those county operations in leased properties. Funding the renovations and replacements of the available owned properties may be possible by leveraging the savings on future lease payments. The presentation accompanying this request demonstrates but one of a myriad of possible scenarios that may be considered by the Board in its decision process. RECOMMENDATIONS: Request Board consideration and direction regarding pending space planning projects related to the financial data presented. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: Ernie Padgett, County Administrator
