Okaloosa County Geocache Trail
Geocaching is a recreational activity that takes place outside, where participants
use a GPS or GPS enabled device to locate containers called “geocaches” or
“caches.”
The caches are at minimum a container and a log book inside the container at
specific GPS coordinates.
The County has been divided into quadrants, each containing 6 (or more)
caches.
Okaloosa County has placed a geocache in several of its public parks. There are
currently 24 + geocaches scattered throughout Okaloosa County. The geocaches
can also be found under the username Okaloosa County BCC on
www.geocaching.com.
Okaloosa Co. Coins are awarded on a 1st come/1st Serve basis, if you log a
minimum of 20 geocaches, with 4 from each quadrant within the County.
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation
awarded Robert L. F. Sikes Public
Library $1,300 grant
The grant is being used for a Summer Reading Program in the Carver Hill
area of Crestview.
This 6-week long outreach program encourages children who live in the
underserved area to retain certain reading levels through an engaging program
centered on the library’s Summer Reading Program theme of “LOL @ the
Crestview Public Library.”
