COUNTRY CLUB AVE PROPOSAL: Jan 2012
On the 16`h of Jan, 15 residents of Country Club Ave met to review
the traffic problems occurring on our Residential street. A consensus
was reached, and a spokesman was selected to present our concerns to
the board briefly today. While much police enforcement regarding
speeding" has been appreciated, it has become obvious that this
activity will not satisfy the " issue ". likewise, of all the solutions
suggested by the " Engineering Study ", " Speed Tables ", Chicanes, and
closing down the road. Only one appears to be cost effective.
The preferred solution to the current problem is to block Country Club
Ave to most /all " Short cut traffic ". Thereby providing:
SAFETY TO THE RESIDENTS....
Historical events
Design data: It is alluded that the 3000 vehicles
that pass thru Country Club is within " Design Specs ". It is doubtful that
this " Specification" considers, high density Residential homes, presence
of Children, pets, joggers, bike traffic, and track teams. Also it is
doubtful that any other road in FWB of a residential nature experiences
this volume of traffic, from non -residents.....
Minimum cost to the City
Reduced " Wear and tear" due to reduced
volume.
Three OPTIONS are suggested, and each have " trade- Offs.....
Within each option" issues as impact on first
Providiers, and utility issues as trash and Mail, have
1MV /o,
been explored " unofficially', by discussion with
Principles ".
OPTION A ( See sketch) Total blocking of both lanes of Country club
Ave. Considerations:
First responders: Fire, police, medical -Impact: Diverse views
on impact
Mail delivery- Minimum impact...
Trash ( automated, and yard pick up) Require turn arounds,
or backing up three times a week
Cost- 4 -10 ft concrete " blockers" minimum cost.
Resident impact- Minimum- Reduced options for entry/ exit
to Road- Positives -No " Short cut traffic"
Option B ( SEE SKETCH) Blocking of only half of Country Club Ave
Entry points). Considerations:
First responders: Fire, police, medical. Impact- Diverse
views on impact
Mail Minimum impact....
Trash: Same as Option A
Cost- 2 -10 ft concrete blockers Minimum cost.
Resident impact- Minimum ( Reduced entry
options)..... Positives —Exit capability- No " short Cut traffic
Option C: ( See sketch) Making Country Club Ave a one way road
centering at " Eagle St" ( Eubanks suggestion)....
Considerations:
First responders: Fire, Police, Medical- Impact- Diverse views
on impact.
Mail- Minimum impact...
Trash -Same as Option A....
Cost- Signs at either end of Country Club Ave, indicating
One Way" Remarking of road, making vehicle ( One way) traffic at
center of road. ( Options include placing " concrete blocker at entry to
Road.)
Resident impact: Reduced exit /entry for Country Club
residents.
Positives -No short Cut traffic. Increased " Safe Zone"
away from vehicle traffic ( 4 Ft each side) Allowing for bikers, joggers,
pet walkers, Chocto Track practice, " Parking ", and utility vehicle
parking.
CONCLUSIONS:
The recommendations of the Country Club residents are in
no way attempting to " Move" our problems to other " Kenwood"
residents. It is an effort to move high volume traffic away from the
Kenwood Community of FWB. We believe the Councils actions on this
issue will set a precedence regarding all of the residential areas of FWB
The issue of time saving for some, does not justify all the safety issues
of Residential neighborhoods. It is the opinion of the Country Club
residents that closing down of Country Club Ave is the only Cost -
Effective solution.
SUGGESTIONS:
install
1. T
Speed TaWef
2. The" Council" review the three suggested options of
closing down Country Club Ave.
3. The council places this issue an on the agenda of the
next " Board Meeting ";To discuss in detail the recommendations, and
finalize closing down of Country Cub Ave.
4. The council review its minutes of the previous meetings
on this issue ( Nov and Dec) meetings. It would appear that a
unanimous vote was taken to close down Country Club Ave.
Any questions?
Thankyou....
