BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: August 5, 2014
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Dino J. Villani
SUBJECT: Emergency Communications Network (CodeRED) Renewal
DEPARTMENT: Public Safety
BCC DISTRICT: All
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request approval to direct pay the Emergency Communications
Network, LLC., invoice in the amount of $27,650 for the period July 1, 2014-June 30, 2015.
BACKGROUND: Emergencies result without warning and require the ability to quickly reach
out to the public and business interests within Okaloosa County. Okaloosa County utilizes the
"CodeRED" system to notify people and businesses that are being threatened by an emergency
event. CodeRED works as a reverse 911 system and has ability to call up to 1,000 phones per
minute. It provides automated weather warnings for severe weather, serves as part of the flood
warning system, and is utilized to warn areas of situations that impact them. Direct pay is being
requested due to the EMPA and EMPG grant funds not being available until after July 1st.
OPTIONS: Approve/Disapprove.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Recommend approval to direct pay the Emergency Communications
Network invoice in the amount of $27,650.
