RESOLUTION 2009-49 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA, TERMINATING THE FORT WALTON BEACH YOUTH COMMITTEE; AND SETTING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS: On June 12, 2007, the City Council of the City of Fort Walton Beach passed Resolution 2007-11, establishing the Fort Walton Beach Youth Committee, a committee designed to provide Council with input on issues important to the area’s youth. On August 28, 2007, City Council passed Resolution 2007-22, which amended Resolution 2007-11 by allowing residents of the City and/or students of Fort Walton Beach High School and Choctawhatchee High School to apply for appointment to the Youth Committee. The Youth Committee has experienced difficulty seating a quorum in recent months and has been unable to conduct committee business. Resolution 2009-22, downsizing the Committee from 11 members to seven was approved by City Council on June 23, 2009, as an effort to achieve a quorum, but has not produced results. The lack of meetings has meant the Committee has not accomplished any significant project in its two and a half year existence. In addition, the Committee currently has four members sitting on a seven member Committee. Despite efforts to gain new members through the schools and other avenues, the City has been unable to fill vacant positions. Therefore, the City Council hereby terminates the City of Fort Walton Beach Youth Committee and all like activities set forth in Resolution 2007-11, Resolution 2007- 22 and Resolution 2009-22. This resolution shall be effective upon vote of Council.
