BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
AGENDA REQUEST
DATE: November 20, 2012
TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board
FROM: Don Turner
SUBJECT: Elder Services Leased Space Project Completion Funding Request
DEPARTMENT: Facility Maintenance
BCC DISTRICT: ALL
STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The Board is requested to approve General Fund Capital
Outlay - Judicial Reserve funding in the amount of $13,800 to complete the remodeling of
the space in the old Fort Walton Beach (FWB) hospital leased to Elder Services.
BACKGROUND: In March of 2012, the county entered into a lease with Elder Services
for approximately 6,800 s.f. in the old FWB hospital. Funding was available in FY 2012 to
complete the project. Before the remodeling work could begin, an asbestos survey of the
area had to be done and the asbestos containing materials (ACM) had to be abated from
the leased space by a qualified contractor.
It took longer than expected to complete each of the pre-construction activities which
pushed the actual remodeling work close to the end of the fiscal year. By the time it
became apparent that the work would not be completed in FY '12, the opportunity to
request funding for the project be included in the FY '13 budget had passed. The original
funding provided in the FY 2012 budget reverted back to the General Fund Reserves.
If the Board approves the completion of the project, $13,800 will be needed to finish the
work.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Request approval of Capital Projects funding in the amount of
$13,800 to complete the remodeling of the space leased to Elder Services in the old FWB
hospital.
