STATEMENT OF ISSUE: The transit fleet currently includes four (4) 2007 high mileage
paratransit sedans that were scheduled to be replaced in 2012. GM also requests to purchase two
(2) additional wheelchair accessible vans utilizing excess Federal Transit Authority (FTA) funds
for vehicle procurement.
BACKGROUND: Transit has four (4) paratransit sedans that have all exceeded their useful life
of four-years and 100,000 miles. All sedans have between 145,000 and 180,000 miles. Vehicle
replacement funds were approved by FTA in Grant FL-90-X715. No local funding is required.
Transit also would like to purchase two (2) wheelchair accessible vans for paratransit. The
paratransit fleet is currently being fully utilized and is in need of increasing the paratransit
vehicles spare-ratio. The vans will also decrease operating costs by using the wheelchair vans
instead of wheelchair accessible buses for out-of area medical trips. Three (3) buses were funded
and previously purchased with Grant FL-90-x680 and the Grant has remaining approximately
$140,000 for bus and bus security purchases. This would require an electronic Budget Revision
request submitted to and approved by FTA in TEAM. The vans will be purchased from Creative
Bus Sales on the State Contract #TRIPS-12-SNV-CBS. No local funding is required.
OPTIONS: Approve or not approve the vehicle purchases and the budget revision request for
the purchase of two wheelchair accessible vans using excess FTA funds.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Approve the purchase of the four (4) replacement vehicles and
purchase of two (2) wheelchair vans and the electronic FTA budget revision request, including
all necessary authorizations.
