Okaloosa County BOCC — March 1, 2016 — 3-1-16 Harvest House 30th Anniversary

P ROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Harvest House was founded in 1985 working tirelessly to serve the poor and less fortunate of the Des- tin Community; and WHEREAS, the vision of Harvest House is based on Isaiah 58:6-9 which commands Christians to “share our bread with the hungry, bring to your house the poor who are cast out, and when you see the naked, that you cover him”; and WHEREAS, Harvest House began and continues under the leadership of, Jerry and Claire Ogle, with Jerry Ogle serving as Board Member, Visionary Leader, and Longest Serving Volunteer for the entire existence of Harvest House; and WHEREAS, Harvest House’s initial work was to supply food during the holidays to approximately 30 families in the Destin community, and its’ mission expanded to a 500 square foot brick home that was on the corner of Marler Street and Mountain Drive. Since 1985, Harvest House has distributed an estimated 7.5 million pounds of food to the homeless, less fortu- nate individuals, and needy families; and WHEREAS, Harvest House constructed, with donated funds and services of many volunteers and sponsors, a 5,200 square foot facility in 1998 on the site of its first headquarters. This location serves as its office, thrift store and food pantry; and WHEREAS, the success of Harvest House is due to the support of the Destin community; the many, many volun- teers support from area businesses and finally partnership with many of the local churches. Most certainly that success is a testament to the spiritual roots that run deep through the Destin community. It is that same commitment to Destin’s proud Christian heritage that will carry us forward. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Boar d of Commissioner s of Okaloosa County, Florida, that we do hereby proclaim March 30th, 2016 as the 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF HARVEST HOUSE DULY PASSED AND ADOPTED this 1st day of Mar ch, 2016.
