BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AGENDA REQUEST DATE: April 7, 2015 TO: Honorable Chairman and Members of the Board FROM: Dino J. Villani SUBJECT: 2015 National Association of Counties Achievement Award Application for EMS DEPARTMENT: Public Safety BCC DISTRICT: All STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Request Approval to submit the National Association of Counties Achievement Award Application for the EMS Comprehensive Quality Assurance and Training Program. BACKGROUND: The annual Achievement Award Program began in 1970 and is a non- competitive awards program, which seeks to recognize innovative county government programs. The application fee is $60.00. Awards are given in a number of program categories such as: arts and historic preservation, children and youth, community and economic development, jails- corrections, county administration, emergency management, environmental protection, health, human services, libraries, parks and recreation, transportation and volunteers. EMS is requesting authorization to submit an application for recognition of its Comprehensive Quality Assurance and Training Program in the category of Health. The program fosters participation between local fire departments, hospitals, and EMS in the development and implementation of new quality standards, pre-hospital medical performance measures, resource and data sharing procedures, and a comprehensive training program that provides realistic classroom and skills lab training modules based on local treatment protocols rather than commercially available web-based programs. The results of the program since implementation in January 2014 have shown objective and measurable improvement in all categories of clinical competency and a higher quality of pre-hospital care in Okaloosa County. OPTIONS: Approve/disapprove. RECOMMENDATION: Recommend approval to submit the National Association of Counties Achievement Award Application for the EMS Comprehensive Quality Assurance and Training Program. RECOMMENDED BY: APPROVED BY: John Hofstad, County Administrator
