After conducting a thorough needs analysis, our department is requesting assistance in acquiring a Panasonic Toughbook laptol
computer, MSA multi -gas detectors, Motorola VHF portable radios, LifePak 1000 automatic external defibrillators ( AED), and a
LifePak 1000 AED trainer unit. The department has carefully researched the products requested in this grant and determined the
features and quality would best serve the department in achieving its mission. All items would be obtained through the city' s
procurement process and would be in compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and grant requirements. Quotes were
received from reputable vendors for all items identified in this grant request. Once all items are received, the department will
conduct training for all department personnel on the new equipment and place it into service as soon as possible. There is no
funding through local sources for the items identified in this grant in this fiscal year, or our next fiscal year which begins on Octot
1, 2011. Our department responded to 3, 866 calls for assistance during 2010. The items identified in this grant will serve to impn
or help the department maintain the health and safety of the public we serve and our department personnel. The department is

The Panasonic " Toughbook" computer will replace our existing laptop that is currently used in our Battalion Chief /Command veh m
Our current laptop computer is outdated and the technology used is obsolete. In order to take full advantage of our department' s m
recently upgraded SEMS II personnel accountability system, a more powerful processor and touch screen technology are featun N
that are desperately needed. Providing a comprehensive personnel accountability system that tracks personnel time on scene, 4
available air supply, activated PASS devices, and provides downed firefighter location information is an invaluable tool for
preventing and /or minimizing firefighter injuries or possible death. Firefighter injuries and fatalities not only affect the operational
aspects of the fire department, but create tremendous financial liability through workers compensation claims, overtime for staffir r
and other injury or death benefits. This financial burden is placed not only on the department, but on the community that funds th ei
department. The benefits of keeping firefighters safe far outweigh the cost of the requested computer. The Motorola portable rad
will be used to provide vital communication between responders, incident commanders, and dispatch. Our current VHF radios ar
over 10 years old and the department can no longer obtain replacement parts. As we continue to lose radios to age, we continue c
lose our ability to provide our personnel with a key communication component. Communication is a major function in providing fc 2
firefighter safety. As noted above, good, reliable, and modem communication devices promote a safer emergency response
environment and helps prevent freighter injuries and /or fatalities... which bring tremendous financial liability. The MSA multi -gas a
detectors will serve multiple rolls within the department. Like our portable VHF radios, our current detectors are aged and some n
replacement parts within the detectors have become unobtainable. The detectors are used to monitor air quality after structure f Q

additional resources. Many times, our personnel have been able to quickly determine that carbon monoxide alarms and /or natun u
gas leaks are false in nature, which prevents the unnecessary response of on -call or overtime personnel from the gas departmei z

capabilities.
